Progress Report: How is Our Family Business Going?

I have going on and on about the benefits and how to start a business and hire your kids, well now its time i shared a little bit about how things are going on our end.

The last check in we did we were testing out some products. We tested making soap, chap stick, candles, and bath bombs, although all of these were fun to make they were not the right fit for where we are in the business and in age. These products will most likely come into play in a few years when the kids are older and have an easier time making them on their own.

Back to square one!

That's right since we now had no products to sell we went back to the drawing board and decided on making bead bracelets (coming soon) and necklaces (coming soon), those are simple and easy to make perfect for 6 year olds. Plus we are also going to stick with the stone necklace and of course my favorite, the acorn necklace. We will also be selling portable silicone straw with cleaning kit and finally we added stickers to the mix. The purpose of the stickers is to give the girls an easy win since they are a cheap buy and people will be more willing to buy something like that to show support. The small wins the stickers provide are crucial for building momentum and exciting These products will help them learn about supply and demand as well as about reselling and taking profits or loss. All in all its a win. And we are getting excited.

Now that we have decided on our products, we have to figure out ways to sell them.

We have two ways we are planning on making sales at the moment. The first is online sales through the Those PNW Kids shop, unfortunately we will have to charge 4.99 flat rate shipping unless its stickers, stickers will get free shipping as a courtesy. I plan on doing marketing and all that fun stuff.

The second way we plan on making sales is by setting up a shop next to my brothers farm stand and piggy backing off his customers, might have to pay some space rent but its all part of the process. We are hoping to take over a small shed/shop next to his farm stand.

This is what we are hoping to rent from my brother =)

Now what? Now that we have a plan of what is going to be sold and how we are going to do it, its time for dad to jump into the fun part. Im of course talking about setting up our LLC and doing all of the proper paper work to register the business here in the state of Washington. For this step there may be a fee you have to pay in order to establish your llc, but it shouldnt be too bad. Once established, there is still a lot of additional paper work to be done so make sure when you are doing something like this that you do your research.

This is probably what i should have started with but we finally came up with a solid name for the kids business are you ready? drum roll please.......Those PNW Kids Shop. Creative right! plus it's on brand. So the plan is to register That PNW Dad doing business as Those PNW Kids. So yea this was pretty exciting.

Next time i check in im hoping to have the LLC set up and and ready to start making sales, so stay tuned! And leave a comment below
